Sofia Abbad
Story:
I have been playing football since I was little girl, always going to the park to play with my brother and going to watch my brother matches. I joined my first football team at age 13 and still continue to play now. I started coaching after the lockdown in 2020 when I was 18 years old, the reason I started coaching is because I never has a group of girls I could play football with when I was young, and I also wanted that for myself but couldn’t. So I wanted to make sure the new generation of female football players are able to have a team to play with at a young age but also have a friendship for life. Football brings everyone together, it’s a community which I never had. But i want to give to the girls everything I never had, taking them to watch matches as a group or even going out and doing a fun activity like bowling which we have done. Spending times with people who have the same interests is something for life, they are soo young, and when they are older they can look back and say wooow I had such a good time when I was younger because of football because they were able to create such incredible memories.
Reason for nomination:
I give everything to the girls I coach for nothing in return. I am currently in my last year studying at university doing a advertising degree, whilst having 2 jobs and also playing for university team and local team Croydon FC and I always make sure I am at every training session and each match for the girls. Even during the summer break I carried on my training sessions at the park for the girls, so if they were bored during the summer holidays they had football to think about each week. I just wanted to give them the best experience that I never had, I will give my all to them because they are our future of football!
