Alison Knight

Passionate Player

Story:

I have been playing football since even before I can remember and use to play in the boys side as there were no opportunities for women when I was younger. I am a qualified psychologist and currently work as mental health professional supporting children and young people with autism and severe complex needs. For the latest 13 years I have also coached football for young women and play for my local side 3 times a week and have volunteered as coach to support rehabilitation at a local hospital which allowed me to see how much football gives people in terms of a sense of purpose, quality of life and self worth, alongside play therapy at Great Ormond St Children's hospital. I am diagnosed with Turners syndrome which can sometimes affect my ability to play. I go along and support at every single game I can traveling far and wide to see the lionesses inparticular.

Reason for nomination:

I hope to continue to make a positive change in peoples lives. I love women's football because

It has given me hope

It crosses cultures, boundaries and generations,
there is nothing that compares. I want to be able to give other women the platform football has given me to have the freedom to express myself on and off the pitch. To be able to live your dreams in reality and squish depictions of female stereotypes. I am a huge advocate for the game and the platform to use it as a vehicle to make a better world for those that didn't or don't have the chance. Thank you
