Beth Norman-Walker
Story:
When Beth started playing football, she was only girl. But she was allowed to play with the boys and ended up playing for Knaphill; going on to win the Surrey Youth Games.
Beth tried to continue to play football – but found her secondary school only offered girls hockey / netball etc.
So Beth took up every sport she could; she played hockey for England and was Surrey captain and was hockey captain whilst at Uni.; represented Woking in the ‘Road to Wimbledon’ competition in tennis; and players rounders for England.
But Beth always watched, supported and had a passion for football. And the Euro’s sparked Beth’s love for football and she signed up to a local women’s side; South London Laces. Beth also regularly plays and is the only woman who plays in staff football.
Beth also works in football; having now worked at two football clubs in their commercial departments.
Reason for nomination:
Football was Beth’s first sport and first passion – so returning to playing capacity - shows how much of a special place if holds in her heart. I know nothing beats the feeling she has when she’s on the football pitch.
Beth now working in football in a professional capacity – for multiple football clubs – is a dream come true for her.
Beth really is an inspiration. She is passionate and driven and is an example to women who are thinking of getting back into football and those who want to enter sport in a professional capacity.
