Gemma Owen
Story:
Gemma has worked tirelessly to grow the women and girls section at Wrexham AFC for the last 7 years.
What started with a turn up and play session has now grown to primary/high school girls sessions, community based girls sessions, girls only soccer camps, full girls development centre in partnership with the FAW, U19 Women squad and Women’s first team at Wrexham AFC.
Gemma has created a full pathway for girls within Wrexham AFC to cater for all levels of ability and interest with many girls progressing to local grassroots clubs and various RTCs around the UK. In addition to this, some girls have also progressed through the clubs own pathway to now feature regularly in the Womens first team.
Gemma’s passion for the Women and Girls game is incredible and she isn’t finished yet! There is so much more that she wants to do to grow the Women and Girls section at Wrexham AFC along with the female game even further.
Reason for nomination:
Because Gemma deserves recognition for the hard work she has put in and dedicated to growing female football in Wrexham and beyond. So many girls now have so many opportunities they may not have had otherwise.
Her love and passion for growing the game at the club she has supported since she was a small girl is something to be celebrated!
