Tosin Gbaja
The Business of Sport

Story:

Tosin Gbaja is an award-winning sports consultant, writer and founder of sport shifts, a movement that aimed to further conversations about sports, by bringing diverse voices and topics to the table.

Sport has had a huge influence on Tosin, and her dream growing up was always to work in sports and make an influence on other people’s lives. She overcame huge obstacles including being typecaste as a trouble maker due to her ADHD not being diagnosed, but went on to graduate in sports management.

Tosin kept pushing doors open and has been able to be part of some amazing sports events. She has been called the “best networker I know” by many of friends and colleagues. However something always bothered her when she would attend networking events to learn from amazing, established and high-profile speakers. These networking events were often closed communities made up of the same old faces and as a Black woman she never met people she could relate to. Tosin truly believes in the power that sport has and believes that as many people should be able to access that power.

So she got to work and put her networking and events management skills to good use to make a difference for people who are like me. Sports shifts was created in 2019 as a network that aims to further conversations about sports, by bringing diverse voices and topics to the table. Since then, she has been putting on groundbreaking events and contributed thought leadership across the industry. She has been recognised on the Football Black List Ugo Ehiogu “Ones to watch list”. In 2022 Tosin was chosen as one of 10 women of colour chosen for the Spotify Sound Up 22 programme UK to increase diversity in the sports podcasting world.

Reason for nomination:

Tosin has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, and has worked hard to develop a fantastic network to help her influence change in sports through her writing, speaking, content creation and production. Tosin is known to speak her mind and bring topics to the fore that leaders and influencers have not considered.
