Annie Willingham
Reason for nomination:
Whilst I was at University I studied Education and Psychology, but on the side I've always had an interest in graphics and content creation and took up different opportunities whilst studying to run my University sports team's social media as well as working with the Students' Union on content for Instagram and TikTok. I used these opportunities to self teach myself how to use different platforms and being exposed to the 'behind-the-scenes' work; scheduling posts, editing, writing strategic plans, opened my eyes to a world beyond my original degree, which I had never considered!
Recently I launched a TikTok account called @movingthegoalpost_ which focuses on providing a platform to educate people on the world of women's sport. Towards the end of 2023 I also started posting football themed products which I had sewn together, this all started as I wanted something to wear to games when it was too cold to be out in a football shirt!
I've been inspired by women in various sports roles, but hadn't ever considered a role in sports media due to my lack of awareness of what roles are available. Whenever I have attended live sporting events, whether this is football, gymnastics, athletics etc I have always wondered about all the people working behind-the-scenes setting up, making the event accessible for all and working on media coverage. I would love to be a part of the WeSeeYou Network and continue learning, alongside some incredible women, about the different roles that exist in the media world and to continue using my platform to educate people about the talent there is in women's sport.
