Sally Hassona

Sally Hassona
Community Champions

Reason for nomination:

Sally came to Egypt from Australia and been striving to change the cultural norms of women in Sport. Egypt has a strict social culture where many parents refuse for their girls to practice a sport let alone boxing. Sally brought the fully funded BOXWISE London program by the Nick Maughan Foundation in the UK to us here at the Maadi youth centre where girls shared a safe space, spoke about their social issues and were even provided a hot meal. She parents info sessions about sport for the development of girls in society, and how it can help economically and general well being. She took girls to Europe, and brought European girls even from London Community Boxing Club to exchange cultures with them to know their potential. Sally has also mentored girls in Australia and Europe and an indigenous Australian boxer who came to also visit us in Egypt and share experience with our girls.
Sally fundraises, applies for international grants, to help these girls in sport and careers so they can become independent and not set up for arranged marriages at a very young age. Sally is a mentor for Education for employment and Africa change makers for sport NGO initiatives, she is 46 and she really deserves this award
