Sally Hassona

Community Champions

Reason for nomination:

I moved from Australia to Egypt and started a women’s boxing grassroots academy Impact Academy for less advantaged girls from the urban slums of Cairo to reduce the gender gap in a male dominated sport for girls who have suffered many forms of GBV. From 4 girls now more than 300 registered and 500 have come across. We were fortunate to get funding and funded programs from international NGO’s including the Nick Maughan Foundation UK to travel to Europe 3 times where girls can exchange cultures and host an international camp where girls from Europe including UK to come to Egypt and exchange experiences. Girls also from the Middle East have also participated in the Impact camp so the camp has reached girls outside of Egypt. Now many girls are local, national and international champions. The girls also get career and academic mentoring to assist them sustain economically. I am also a career mentor for 2 NGO’s EfE ( education for employment) & 63 Africa for Sport Change Makers.
