Helena Scotland

Reason for nomination:
Helena Scotland deserves to be seen as she is paving the way for women and girls in futsal.
In October 2024, Helena represented England in the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup qualifiers in Moldova. She was the first-ever goal scorer (https://www.instagram.com/reel/DBQ3LnxNGiS/).
Recognition of Helena’s sporting achievements from the #WeSeeYou Network would increase her potential to inspire others as a player, qualified futsal referee, coach and content creator—not just because of her selection for the first England Women’s National Futsal Team but her journey to get there.
Helena started at Leyton Orient, then played at Tottenham Hotspur as a junior. Following a stint in athletics, she fell back in love with football at Loughborough University, where she quickly discovered futsal. She has since immersed herself in the game at all levels; playing successful seasons at the club level; advocating for futsal in the media on podcasts; and becoming the only Black female referee. She enrolled on a coaching course last year, but it unfortunately got cancelled. While waiting for the next official coaching qualification, she has continued to referee games and coach youth futsal with Premier League clubs.
Helena is proud to be England’s first Black British Futsal Lioness and wants to be a positive example in the sport, particularly for young Black girls and those who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Helena believes that inspiring the next generation, like the legend Alex Scott or football content creator Frida Ayisi, is important to connect our community. Role models like Helena can remind young people that it is possible to succeed and thrive.
For these reasons and more, Helena deserves to be seen.
